Abby Chandlis is a low-level lawyer and unknown novelist bent on making her new novel a bestseller. She and her roommate, Theresa, decide to get a male stand-in to act as the real Gable Cooper, her pseudonym on the new novel. Abby`s novel and the stand-in, Jack Jermaine, get lots of attention, but when Theresa dies in an accident apparently meant for Abby, the novelist gets understandably unsettled.
